Manner of Zhang Daqian (1899–1983)

Hanging Scroll, Ink and Color on Paper

The inscription is dated to the summer of 1965 and incorporates the phrase “Sanshiliu  Pi Qiuse” (“The Autumn Colors of Thirty-Six Lakes”), adapted from a celebrated lyric by the Southern Song poet Jiang Kui （1155-1221）. A seal bearing the same phrase further reinforces the literary association.
