Lyle Owerko (Canadian, b. 1968); Boombox Blue, v. 001; fine art pigment on archival smooth pearl paper; [Approximate dimensions - sight: 13" H x 17" W]; pencil signed lower right and numbered 7/12 lower left.

Artist, photographer and filmmaker, Owerko is best known for his perception and knowledge of urban movements, such as "The Boombox Project", from 2005-2010, that celebrates the quintessential big city accessory perched on shoulders or ornamenting front stoops - the icon of the punk, new wave, and hip-hop movements from the 1970s to the 1980s. Boombox Blue was created in 2018 as part of that project's sub-collection, the "Hyper-Pigment Series", where Owerko reimagined iconic, vintage ghetto-blasters by saturated styling and isolation against stark white backgrounds to study the intersection of 1980s street culture and contemporary pop art.
