Late Victorian Evening Dress with Painted Silk Panels. High neck, with crochet lace front under bands of painted silk panels to either side, these sewn to form a v in the front and winged effect to back, with beaded overlay and fringe. Below the waist, the silk panels alternate with crochet lace panels. Crochet lace sleeves with a nearly capulet type overlace. Silk satin ribbon detailing applied to crochet panels throughout. Silk satin lining. {Approximate dimensions: 14" shoulders, 35" bust, 29" waist, 35" hip, 58" L. }. The silk panels are most likely French. Although not labelled, the combination of materials and sophisticated design lead to a European atelier with a possible American clientele.
Lining mostly shredded; losses to beads, minor loose threads to crochet, collar shows strained, pulled fabric.
