Ink and color on silk with gold powder, signed “Hōshū” (芳舟) and bearing a seal of the same, originally a screen and later mounted as a frame.
Depicting a group of waterfowl including mandarin ducks and other birds swimming and resting among reeds and marsh grasses, rendered with delicate brushwork and soft tonal gradation, the upper section lightly sprinkled with gold powder enhancing the atmospheric effect, the composition conveying a sense of quiet natural harmony.
