Inscribed with a quotation from Nantian Weng, the sobriquet of Yun Shouping (1633–1690): “People today, when painting snow, invariably build up ink around the forms and apply white pigment within them. One sees only silk interspersed with white pigment and ink—where, then, is the snow? The ancient masters also employed the method of applying white pigment in snow scenes; however, as such pigment inevitably changes over time, it is ultimately unsuitable.” Further inscribed, “Recorded by Juanfu.” Bearing two seals reading “Fu” (傅) and “Juanfu” (狷夫).
