Flemish School (17th Century), Vertumnus and Pomona, depicting a scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses; oil on canvas; [approximate dimensions - sight: 56 1/4" H x 70 3/4" W], unsigned. 'A Van Dyck, Vertume and Pomone, 1620' on plaque recto. Notes: Exhibited in "Symbolism: Sacred and Secular", Eaton Gallery, Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fresno, CA, Sep. 28-Nov. 27, 1988. This lot includes a museum loan appreciation letter from the Fresno Metropolitan Museum of Art dated 1990; a full conservation report, along with photos, from Engel & Hulbert, Inc and the Balboa Art Conservation Center, San Diego, CA, from 1986; a 1985 International Society of Appraisers insurance appraisal (as attributed to Bernard Keil (Danish, 1624-1687); and a Parke-Bernet Galleries auction offer letter, as "Genoese School", Jan. 28, 1969.

Canvas lined and restored, surface dust and dirt, craquelure throughout. Surface spots of loss, mostly on the upper right side area. Visible inpainting under UV light throughout the painting including the corners, on the figures, cherub, flowers, etc. Verso sealed with board. Gilt frame is heavy and shows wear, framed: 63 1/2" H x 78 3/4" W. Contact Fine Arts Department for additional photos.
