Five Native American and Mexican Pottery Vessels. Comprising five ollas painted with abstract designs in earth tones, the Estevan olla also with stylized representations of insects, animals, and fish, and the Hernandez vessel with alternating fish and bird design. Two of the vessels are glazed.
Marks to the undersides: the brown and red olla on white ground incised with RS, corn mark, C Laate, Zuni, New Mexico; the white and black olla on red ground handwritten with K. Jane (?), Acoma, N.M.; the black and off white lightly glazed vessel incised with NM 81 and an unidentifiable mark; the red and white olla on black ground painted with Acoma, New Mexico, B. ESTEVAN; the glazed off white vessel on red ground incised with Hilario Hernandez and with hand printed "HECHO EN MEXICO" sticker.

In good condition with minor wear overall. Includes some light surface scratches, minuscule nicks, light rubbing, pitting. The black and off white olla with about 1" x 1 1/4" loss to center of base underside, a few possible hairline cracks, area of subtle craquelure. Laate olla with residue to underside. Some with texturing, minor inconsistencies to paint thickness and small imperfections, as made. Please ask the Furniture and Decorative Arts Department for a detailed condition report on this lot.
