Fine Russian Feodor Ruckert Shaded Cloisonne Enamel Presentation Cup, of lobed form on long foot, with inverted squat globular base, the domed cover with double headed eagle knop. Gilt washed to interiors, the exterior walls with elaborate enamel cartouches of birds, figures, arabesques, scrolling foliage, phoenixes, etc. Rim of cover chased with presentation inscription, "PRESENTED TO WILLIAM GRISCOM COXE BY H.I.M. NICHOLAS II CZAR OF RUSSIA 1903." Impressed MF, to foot, with Moscow marks, struck to side of cup and interior of cover monogrammed in Cyrillic, for Feodor Ruckert.
Feodor Ivanovich Ruckert (umlaut over the u), (B. Alsace-Lorraiine, France, 1840 - D. Moscow, Russia, 1917). His birth name was Friedrich Mauritz Rückert, which he Russified on emigrating to the country in 1855.

Very good condition, silver surfaces tarnished, minimal evident solder.

Descended through the family of William Griscom Coxe, a shipbuilder (1868 - 1927), to whom the cup was presented. During the Russo-Japanese War, Coxe delivered to the Czar ships from the fleet of William Cramp & Sons Shipbuilding Company of Philadelphia. After 1910, Coxe moved from the East to the West Coast.
