Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural Mantle Clock, known in French as La Bibliotheque (Library), the cylindrical clock body set into a gilt bronze trompe l'oeuil bookcase, under two wreaths, with two figures of barefoot children in Empire dress, seated on low stools and reading, one with pencil, in front. The figures on a flat base, over an oval lower body decorated with a band of foliate, swagged garlands, above a band of geometric foliate and zig-zag design, on four low pad feet. [Includes key and pendulum]. 

The white enamel face with Roman numerals to the hours, and marked with chapters with single line, the movement with silk thread suspension, and with escapement wheel mechanism, striking hours and half hours.
