Empire Style Gilt Bronze and Porcelain Figural Clock, the model known as "La Amour a la Lanterne Magique," comprising a cased cylinder clock with white enamel dial; Roman chapters; and Arabic quarter hour numerals, the maker named to face center, "Deverberie à Paris," the mechanism with silk thread suspension pendulum and escapement mechanism and wheel.
The upright figure of Eros carrying the clock case on his wings, is centered below the barrel form case, and his wide open grey porcelain eyes look startled. In his left hand, Eros carries a grape cluster; in his right, he holds an elaborate staff cdecorated with ribbons and leaves, with a basket of fruit near his back leg, above the oval textured and patinated bronze base. The shiny gilt metal base front with applied garland of grapes and oak leaves issuing cast eagle's claws. Late 20th Century.
Jean -Simon Deverberie (French, 1764-1824). Clock plate to back neither stamped, engraved nor numbered. Pendulum designed as a dragonfly.
