Empire Style Gilt Bronze and Marble Figural Mantle Clock, Ascension of the Goddess Diana, the figure of the goddess with spear and shield, seated over the clock case, holding the cylindrical clock body with a glazed door. The clock held into place by billowing gilt bronze clouds, all over the oblong, low white marble base, its ends designed as columns, over scrolling gilt bronze anthemia and foliate designs in the recessed arch, below phoenix applique to the sides. All over the flat canted rectangular rouge griotte marble base, on low gilt bronze feet. The white enamel clock case inscribed Thiery à Paris and with Roman numerals for the hours, bands marking the chapters, with Arabic numerals on the quarter hours, with silk thread suspension for the pendulum, and escapement wheel mechanism. Includes key and pendulum.
{Approximate dimensions: 24 1/2" H. to tip of spear x 17 1/2" W. x 5" D.}.
Despite the inscription to the clock face, this is a modern clock body, and a late 20th Century clock case. Silk thread broken to back of clockworks. Minor surface wear, scratches, dust and dirt. Clock does not appear to keep time when wound. Please contact the Furniture and Decorations department for a detailed condition report on this lot.
