Chinese Red Lacquered Lidded Box, of lobed circular form, the cover finely decorated with incised geometric diaper patterns and applied bone carvings depicting lotus and lingzhi motifs arranged in medallions. The sides are similarly lacquered and painted with stylized auspicious designs.
The combination of lotus (purity) and lingzhi (longevity) conveys wishes for harmony and long life, typical of decorative symbolism in Chinese decorative arts.
