Attributed to Nahum Onthank (American, 1823-1888), Portrait of a Gentleman, oil on canvas, laid on board; [approximate dimensions - sight: 29 1/4" H x 24 1/8" W], unsigned. Conservator's stamp verso with a hard copy photo of the verso before relining, showing inscription ‘John Wesson Aged 48’ and ‘Onthank Pinxt 1850’.
Condition
Canvas lined on thick board. Surface dust and dirt, minor craquelure throughout, and visible inpaint under UV light. Inpainting found on the left side from man's face and his attire at center. Canvas verso is waxed. Verso is partial sealed with board. Frame has wear and losses, framed: 38 3/4" H x 34 5/8" W.
