A Persian Bronze Teapot and a Japanese Bronze Cloisonné Incense Burner

19th–20th Century

Comprising a Persian bronze teapot of lobed globular form, raised on a flared foot and fitted with a dragon-head spout and a tall overhead swing handle. The body is richly cast and engraved with alternating panels of scrolling arabesques, geometric ornament, and stylized animal motifs. The domed cover is similarly decorated and surmounted by a bird-form finial, completing the vessel's richly ornamented appearance.

Together with a Japanese bronze cloisonné incense burner of compressed cylindrical form, raised on four scroll feet and flanked by a pair of cylindrical side handles. The body is finely decorated with geometric diaper patterns and flowering branches in colored enamels. The domed cover is surmounted by a recumbent mythical beast finial and ornamented with bands of geometric cloisonné decoration, reflecting the refined metalworking traditions of Meiji-period Japan.

Approximate dimensions:
Teapot: H 9 x W 8 1/2 x D 6 3/4 in. (22.9 × 21.6 × 17.1 cm).
Incense burner: H 8 3/4 x W 5 x D 5 1/4 in. (22.2 × 12.7 × 13.3 cm).
