A Large Carved Jadeite Dish
Qing Dynasty

Of impressive size and carved from a substantial piece of jadeite, the shallow dish is finely decorated in low relief with a central floral medallion surrounded by scrolling foliate motifs and sinuously rendered chilong dragons. The decorative scheme is densely composed yet elegantly balanced, reflecting the Qing dynasty’s appreciation for luxurious materials, refined workmanship, and elaborate ornamentation. The stone displays attractive variegated tones of pale green, russet, and amber inclusions, enhancing its visual appeal. Large jadeite vessels of this scale were likely intended for display and remain comparatively uncommon.

Equally noteworthy is the dish’s exceptionally well-documented provenance. The present work was purchased by Mrs. A. Zuckerberg at the sale of Parke-Bernet Galleries Inc., New York, on February 13, 1946 (Lot 226), for $210. The auction included property from the distinguished collections of Elisabeth Severance Prentiss, Charles N. Edge, and Breckinridge Long, among others. The dish subsequently descended to Abraham Block (1903–1980) and Helen Block (1903–1985) of New York, and thence by family descent to the present owners.

Accompanying the lot are copies of the original Parke-Bernet auction catalogue cover, the catalogue photograph illustrating the present dish, and the original paid receipt. Such complete documentary evidence, preserving both the object’s appearance and ownership history since the mid-twentieth century, is rarely encountered and provides valuable confirmation of its longstanding presence in prominent American collections.

Dimensions: {H 2 x Diameter 10 1/2 inches (5 x 26.67 cm)}.

其后,本器由纽约 Abraham Block(1903–1980)与 Helen Block(1903–1985)夫妇收藏,并由家族递藏至现藏家。
