A Chinese Painted Pottery Jar, possibly Yangshao Culture, Neolithic Period, circa 3000–2300 B.C.

Of high-shouldered globular form tapering to the foot, rising to a short neck with a slightly flared rim, the shoulder applied with a pair of loop handles. The buff earthenware body is painted in black and reddish-brown pigments with broad geometric bands interspersed with stylized bird motifs encircling the shoulder and neck. The form and painted decoration are consistent with pottery traditionally associated with the Yangshao culture. The vessel displays an attractive weathered surface with areas of earthen encrustation and natural patina.

Height: 14 in. (35.6 cm). Rim diameter: 4 5/8 in. (11.7 cm). Maximum width across handles: 12 1/2 in. (31.8 cm).

彩陶罐一件，或为仰韶文化，新石器时代，约公元前3000–2300年

器呈高肩鼓腹，下腹渐收，平底，短颈，口沿微外撇，肩部置对称双系。陶胎呈赭黄色，通体以黑彩及赭彩绘饰宽带几何纹，并间饰抽象鸟纹，环绕肩颈，器形及纹饰风格与仰韶文化彩陶具有相近特征。器表包浆自然，可见土沁及风化痕迹。

高14英寸（约35.6厘米）；口径4 5/8英寸（约11.7厘米）；连双系最大宽度12 1/2英寸（约31.8厘米）。
