20th Century, Still Life with Cheese and Fruit, oil on board. Unsigned. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 10 1/4" H x 7 1/2" W, board: 10 7/8" H x 8 1/8" W]. This anonymous artist created a traditional still-life painting using a warm color palette against a dark background. The composition arranges the objects in a balanced triangular structure, creating a natural flow for the viewer’s eye. At first glance, the two filled glasswares draw the eye upward before leading it downward to the red apple on the books, then to the red cherry hanging from the cheese plate, and finally to the red apple behind the lidded vessel. The painting's reflections and shadows emphasize the texture, form, and three-dimensional quality of the objects.
Surface dust. Gloss varnish with minor aging. No visible inpainting under UV/black light. Gilt frame shows wear and some cracking in molding. Framed: 19 7/8" H x 17 1/8" W.
